STRIKES IN SYDNEY.
SERIOUS POSITION ARISING. ONE DISPUTE SETTLED. Received September 27. 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 27. Indications now are that the fellmongers’ strike will be protracted. In view of the fact that the strike has dislocated the export trade and that the men have rejected the proposals for a settlement, there is speculation as to whether the Federal Government will invoke the Crimes Act. The employers have notified the woolselling brokers that they will not attend the sheepskins sales as buyer's and the postponement of the sales is now being considered. A mass meeting of operatives called to consider the proposed terms of settlement rejected the proposals. The Industrial Registrar was informed by the strikers’ leaders that the conditions offered were regarded as unsatisfactory. A strike of abattoirs’ workers has been settled, and the men returned to work to-day. The dispute with the employers was adjusted amicably.
