HOROWHENUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Sept. 18. Mr T. 0. O’Rourke (Mayor) accompanied by his daughter, Mrs Chamberlain, left for New Plymouth this morning, where tho former will spend a fortnight’s holiday.' The following bowling clubs have signified their intention of being present, at the opening of the Otaki green next Saturday: Petone Central, Karori, Terrace End, Hutt, Manakau (one each), and Levin (two). Pear trees which have blossomed and borne fruit for the past forty years, are now being removed from the section in Main Street, given by Mr Byron Brown to the Otaki Borough Council for library purposes. The daffodil show in connection with tho Otaki H. and D. Society was held on Friday. The champion blooms were Lady Superior, shown by Mr J. Marley, and Lord Roberts by Mr G. Bramley. In tho amateur section Messrs Witclioll, Bramley, Hawell, and Cockrell were the exhibitors and they produced some beautiful blooms. For trumpets. Mrs Bramley, Mrs McGill, Messrs Witched, Marley, Cockrell and Dr. Francis, were the main exhibitors. In barrii Messrs Wilson, Witched, Marley and Mrs Cooksley showed good blooms and in tho miscellaneous section Mrs McGill, Mrs Manz and Miss Mowbray joined with the above-mentioned secured prices. The cottage garden class was a nice one, and in this Mr D. Wilson was the main prize-winner.
