POWER RATE.

STRUCK BY MANAWATU COUNTY

Formal notice of the striking by the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board of a uniform rate of l-16th of a penny in the £ over its area was received by the Manawatu County Council, yesterday ,_ following which the necessary resolution authorising the council to strike the rate within the county was carried.

Cr. J. Boyce: Are there objections to the rate from our ratepayers ? Mr A. K. Drew (county clerk): The rate notices are not yet out, but they will probably go out this week. The chairman (Cr. AV. E. Barber): They have been held up on this account.

Cr. N. Morcom: I don’t suppose there is any way of getting out of it ? The chairman: None at all. AVe merely get 5 per cent, for collecting tho rate.
