LONGBURN SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Longburn School Committee was held last week, when Mr J. Callesen presided. Others present were Messrs A. Oliver, H. Leper, J. Mahony, AV. AVeddell, A. Hearle and E. Lemberg (secretary); also the headmaster, Mr C. C. Hills. The headmaster in his monthly report, mentioned tliat the roll number at present stood at 96, the attendance having displayed a tendency to drop. The annual school ball had been greatly enjoyed by the children and the function had proved to be a great success financially. A cheque was forwarded for inclusion in the committee’s current account. The secretary was instructed to write the children, through the headmaster, conveying the committee’s appreciation of their efforts in connection with the ball, while Mr Hills was also asked to accept the committee’s thanks for tlie part the staff had played in preparing the children.
Mr Hills made a request that a lawn mower be secured for tho school and the secretary was instructed to write the AVanganui Elucation Board on the matter. Arrangements were also made for the securing of another truck of firewood for next winter.
Mr Hearle, in view of liis impending departure for Masterton, tendered his resignation as a member of the committee. Messrs Callesen and AVeddell both paid a tribute to tlie work Mr Hearle had rendered to the community during his residence in Longburn, stating that he had been a willing worker for tlie school and his departure would leave a gap' in their ranks. Other members also made reference to the happy times spent with Mi- Hearle on the committee. Mr AV. AA’ilson was nominated to fill the vacancy. *
