SUMMER SPORT

TAKARO CLUB’S MEETING. The annual general meeting ol members of the Takaro Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club was held in the club’s pavilion, last evening, Mr A. Cooksley presiding over a large attendance.

Mr Cooksley expressed gratification that such interest prevailed in the club’s operations. The annual report (as previously published in the “Standard”) was presented and adopted. Speaking to the report, Mr Cooksley said that it was no use stressing the fact that the year had been a difficult one and it spoke volumes for the loyalty ol all members that the credit balance should remain. All sections had been well to the fore in the competitions, the croquet section especially so. The receipts were similar to those of 'previous years, although the 10 per cent, reduction in fees had been considerable. This reduction was a temporary measure and had operated for two years. - The City Council rent had been reduced by a 10 percent, rebate and the tennis courts at the rear were practically completed. • only about £0 being required. Maintenance generally was about the same and there were several amounts that would not be recurring. There were no liabilities and this spoke well for tlie club. The ladies had again done good work and had raised the sum of £4l 14s 2d—a very accejitable sum, Mr Cooksley said. Mr R. Tanner, the patron, commented that the balance-sheet was very satisfactory indeed. Mr E. N. Budden added that nothing but credit could be reflected by the report. Mr G. 11. Jarrett stressed the value of the card functions.

The following officers were appointed:—Patron, Mr R. Tanner; president, Mr A. Cooksley; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs A. V. Batson and F. G. Scott; secretary, Mr D. Spring; treasurer, Mr E. .Simpson; lion, auditor, Mr T. Bf Arlidge; green supervisor, Mr E. Simpson; executive members, sectio'n representatives to bo appointed. All last year’s officers were returned and eulogistic comment was made on tlieir splendid services.

As a result of a. decision made at the last annual meeting to approach the City Council with the request that the filling of the drain in Featherston Street West be done to provide an additional parking area, the council advised that the work would be executed as,soon as possible. Mr Cooksley stated that the club had been in communication with the town clerk regarding the renewal of the lease for 10 vears and understood that there would be no difficulty in obtaining a renewal.

Twenty-six new members were received, 20 being for tlie tennis section and six for the bowling. Four resignations were received. It was decided to continue the temporary measure of allowing a 10 per cent, rebate off subscriptions paid by November 00.

The secretary was accorded the usual honorarium.

Mr Cooksley stated that the greens were in splendid condition and it was decided to open the season on October

A vote of appreciation to Mr P. Black (city curator), the City Council, the chairman and tlie Press concluded the meeting.
