ROAD CYCLING

THE AMATEUR RACE. Eight riders started in the amateur road cycle race on Saturday from Palmerston North to Fcilding, Awahuri, Sanson and back, a distance of 35 miles. The scratch riders, Lawrence and Preston, rode the whole distance together, but failed to catch the leaders, although they returned the first and second fastest times respectively. The roads were in good condition all tlie way. Thomas (6min.), D. Lamberton and It. Lamberton (13min.) withdrew during the race. St. Jolm Ambulance men were in attendance.

The following was the result: —Eade (2}min.) lhr. 32min., 1 ; Christensen (Bmin.) lhr. 38min. 35 l-ssec., 2; Hobbs (6min.) lhr. 36min. 35 2-ssec., 3. The fastest times were: Lawrence (scr.) lhr. 29min. 0 l-ssec.; Preston (scr.) lhr. 29min. 0 4-ssec. ; Eade (2J min.) lhr. 32min. Hobbs was also an entrant.

PROFESSIONAL RACE. The professional race was held from Terrace End to Feilding. through Ashhurst to return by way of Bunnythorpe, the distance being 32 miles. Rodgers, who was the limit handicap rider, sustained a puncture. The following was the result: —Ganderton (llmin.) lhr. 27min. 53sec., 1 ; Mcßrearty (14niin.) lhr. 31niin. 50 2-5 sec., 2; Bailey (llmin.) lhr. 28min. 51sec., 3. Collins finished with fastest time, lhr. 27min. 30sec. Also started: Collins (Bmin.), Rodgers (20min.) and Luxmore (Bmin.). St. John Ambulance men were in attendance.
