MAN FOR SENTENCE
FAILURE TO ACCOUNT,

AUCKLAND, Aug. 4. The trial of James Milward Houston, company director, aged 44, on charges ot fraudulently failing to account for money, and of theft, was concluded in tire Supreme Court. There were separate counts in the indictment to the number of 04, chieity alleging failure to account. The jury returned to say they had found tho accused guilty on all the first 45 counts and on nine others. On six they, acquitted him. The first 45 counts wero charges of receiving sums of money upon terms requiring him to account tor them to John Burns and Co., Ltd., and having-fraudu-lently omitted to do so. 'lire other charges of which he was found guilty were of thefts from Hobart Berkel. Limited, failure to enter certain items in the books of the company with intent to defraud, and as an officer of the company making a false statement of stock with intent to deceive a creditor.
The jury recommended mercy, considering the defalcations should have been discovered earlier.
The prisoner was remanded for sentence.
