FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Aug. 4. Mrs H. Horner, of Inglewood, is at present visiting her sister, Mrs .1. K. Hornblow. Rev. Mr Kenney arrived in Foxton yesterday to take up his duties in connection with the combined Foxton and Shannon districts. Rev. Father McDermott, of Eltham, and recently of Foxton, paid a visit to Foxton this week.
\yhitcbait is still a scarce quantity in the Manawatu River. It is usual to net fairly largo quantities before this ' stage in the season, but the “run” is proving late this year. There is at present in full bloom in a Foxton garden a large flowering cherry tree.
The Himatangi-Rangiolu main highway is at present in a particularly bad state, being pot-holed and corrugated throughout. Several ears have met with minor mishaps on this stretch of the road lately. At football on Wednesday a team representative of Foxton and Foxton Firo Brigade juniors defeated the To Ivawau junior representatives at Awahuri by 9 points to 6. The game was an interesting one. Tho junior Rugby competition in tho Horowhemia northern district Shows tho positions of the teams as follow:’ Foxton, 17 points; Athletic, 17; Foxton Fire Brigade) 14; Tokomaru, 10; Shannon, 6; Pirates, 6; Funahau, 0.
