WOODVILLE, May 8. Mr C. A. Anderson, of the Woodville railway staff, is on his annual leave. Miss L. Groves, of Napier, is the guest of Mr and Mrs H. G. Dorrington, McLean Street. Rev. N. F. Benham, M.A., diocesan secretary for homo , missions, is visiting Woodville. He conducted the servicos at Holy Trinity Church yesterday, and at Papatawa in the afternoon. Rev. G. W. Davidson was the preacher at yesterday’s services at Ormondville and Matamau. A successful year’s operations is reviewed in the seventh . annual report of the Woodville- Farmers' Association, Ltd., which will be presented at the annual ‘meeting on May 29. A credit balance of £l4 Os Id is shown on the year’s working. The chairman (Mr J. C. Bolton) submits a comparison of the average prices realised at the sheep fairs for the past four years: 1930, £1 Is 6d per head; 1931, 6s 10Ad; 1932, 7s 4d; 1933, 7s 9£d. The retiring directors are Messrs J. C. Bolton and J. M. Hutchinson, who offer themselves for reelection. It will also be necessary to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr J. Harding. The Woodville County Council met on Friday, Cr M. O. Grainer presiding. Also present were Crs R. H. Morgan, T. .H. Williams, G. Peebles, R. T. Mabey. J. Galloway and 0. H. Druee. Cr Sheffield was granted leave of absence. The Highways Board forwarded authority for £516. being subsidy (£3 for £1) for expenditure on the main Napier-Wellington highway, via Wairarapa (Masterton road). Cr Morgan asked that the engineer carry out an inspection of Sowry’s Road. It had been used largely ae a stock route, and could be greatly improved with several culverts. The engineer was instructed to inspect the road. Nine Maharahara ratepayers wrote drawing attention to the state of Graham’s Road. The matter was referred to the engineer. Accounts amounting to £842 were passed for payment. Mrs Walker presided over the monthly meeting of the Mangatainoka Women’s Institute, which was well attended. Mrs Stainfon was congratulated on her election to the provincial federation executive committee and presented with a posy by Mrs Kerrison. The sum of £5 was voted to the hall committee toward the improvement fund. Mrs Stainton was appointed delegate to the Dominion conference in Christchurch. Mrs Wilton (Makuri) gave a demonstration on papier maehe work and exhibited a nice collection of finished bowls and dolls. Two competitions were keenly- contested and resulted: Light fruit cake (recipe supplied by Mrs Howell), Mrs Michael 4. Mrs Morris 2; prettiest posy, Mrs Walker 1, Mrs Kerrison 2. Thanks were accorded Mrs Wilton by Mrs Morris. The hostesses were Mrs Kerrison and Miss Smith.
