It must Lie said, however, that the locals missed their captain (Preston), who met with an accident in the morning, and also faiiiipkinson, who played brilliantly at half-back the previous week. . For the winners, D. Anderson played a great game at fullback. His try was a fine one. • Carey (half-back) and his two five-eighths, McKenzie and Clapham, combined well, and W. Dais was Hie best of a good threequarter line. The forwards all worked well, Cowdrey being always promnient. tor the losers Cutts (half-back) did not see much of the ball, but lie did a lot of good work in defence. l’awson played solidly, but was well marked. Homes ran strongly at times, and used bis to come round and make an extra back in the passing chain, but his handling was faulty at times. Jeffries was weak, but kicked to the side-line well on occasion. The wings had few opportunities. Pausina, Bromley and Harper went well in the forward rank.

Anderson put the. yellows on the attack, and Hughes dribbled through, Bulls forcing. Hulcombe forwards came through again, and L. Davies scored. Anderson made a good but ineffectual attempt to goal. Hot forward attacks followed. Then Higlit had a shot from wide out, just missing the posts. Ragged play followed, the pace telling on the opposing packs. The blacks opened the second spell aggressively. Cowdrey, led the yellow forwards back again, and Anderson’s shot from the side-line saw the ball hit the bar. Lunn opened up play and transferred to Homes, who ran strongly until grassed. Fitzgerald went on, and Homes gathered in and ran well, but was brought down just short of the line. Halcombo forwards relieved the pressure, and lively play in the home twenty-five saw the ball go into touch-in-goal. Then followed a sensational incident, Anderson returning the ball to Cooper, who collided with a confrere, allowing Anderson to follow up and regain possession, to run over 50 yards to -score under the posts. The same player converted. Cutts sent the blacks away,_ and Jeffries was going well when McKenzie stopped him. The yellow forwards swept back, and the ball went to J. Dais, who was almost across. W. Dais was then dangerous, but the home team forced. Pawson and Homes turned the tables, Homes being hauled down. Grantham, McGreal and L. Device then broke through, the last-named scoring a simple try. Anderson missed the goal, and the game finished soon afterwards without addition: Rfticombe 11, Bulle 0. Mr E. Westwood refereed.

A meeting of the committee of the R.S.A. .was held on Friday evening. After routine business had been conducted a report of the sale of poppies was presented, the total of which was £l3 17s. Considering the stress of the times this is a very satisfactory result, and the thanks of the committee are due to all who sold poppies, and also to the public for their generous response. As there are a number of returned soldiers hero who are unemployed, this will be a big help to them during the winter months. As the membership in this district is now 40, the branch is entitled to two representatives on the. Marton executive. Mr IV. A. Churchill is already a representative, and it was unanimously decided to appoint Mr J. Campion to the second position. Various other matters of importance were dealt with, and final arrangements were made for the social evening to be hold soon. A good programme has been arranged, and the guest of the evening will be 3Mr 33. J. Jacobs, of Palmerston North, a Dominion vice-president of the association.
