WOODVILLE.
WOODVILLE, Jan. 27. Miss M. E. Sanders, of Auckland, is tho guest of Mrs B. A. A. Ewing, Ormond Street. Word was received this week from Auckland that Miss Janet Groame Crawford, daughter of Mr and Mrs M. H. (Harry) Crawford, had passed her final examination as pupil nurse. The wedding was celebrated in the Anglican Church on Wednesday by Rev. G. W. Davidson, of Miss IS. W. Barnett, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. W. Barnett, of Levin, and grand-daughter of Mrs Hartstone, senior (Woodvilie) to Mr G. T. Elliot, of Levin. Tho bride, who was given away by Mr Thomas Barnett, in the absence of her father, wore a frock of white crepe-de-chine, and carried a bouquet of summer (lowers. Tho bridesmaid, Miss Phyllis Buruard, of Ashhurst, chose a frock of pale blue, and wore a necklet, the gifts of the bridegroom. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr A. P. Barnett, brother of tho bride. Later the happy couple left for Dunedin, Mr A. P. Barnett driving them to Wellington by car. The bride’s travelling dress was pale green, with coat, hat and shoes to match.
On 77 ednesday afternoon a party was hePd in the grounds of Mrs J. A. Vickers’s residence in Ormond Street, in honour of Miss Esther Worboys, whose wedding day is approaching. About fifty guests wore present. Afternoon tea was enjoyed under the trees, after which Miss Worboys was presented with a charming rose bouquet made up of handkerchiefs, ribbons, shingle cap and lavender sachets.' Assisted by Miss Slrand, who is to be her bridesmaid, she unwrapped all the useful gifts thoughtfully provided by her friends. Musical honours were then accorded the guest of honour. Several items contributed further towards tho pleasure of the afternoon. “I once had a manager named John Elder, and a better farmer and a better man I have never mot,” stated His Excellency, Lord Bledisloe, at Woodvilie yesterday when, replying to the welcome given by tho Mayor (Mr John Elder), tho Gov-ernor-General said that tho name was one associated with some cf tho finest farms and farmers in tho world, those of the Lowlands of Scotland.
