FARMERS IN SOUTH.
SEVERAL RESOLUTIONS. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Dec. 17. "That this representative meeting of farmers of Ashburton County respectfully requests the Governor-Gen-eral to call the people of New Zealand together in prayer,” was a resolution passed yesterday at a meeting of farmers. Another resolution was as follows: “That in view of the disastrous position in which the farmers of New Zealand are placed, which is daily becoming more serious, and in view of the deplorable effect the situation is having on the morale of individual farmers, and also having due regard to the serious situation that a diminution in primary production would cause to the whole of New Zealand, this meeting strongly urges that meetings be called in y all centres throughout the South Island to deal definitely with the position and, if necessary, a South Island conference be held.”
The following motions were also considered: "That the general principle of a reduction of interest be approved ; that the period of the Mortgagors’ and Tenants’ Relief Act be extended to at least 1935; that all financial agents and others who hold chattel securities, and hire purchase agreements, and provide advances for farmers, be included in the provisions of the above Act; that a Primary Producers’ Bank, with the right of note issue, be established.”
