WORKERS AT AWAPUNI. FOR THE HOLIDAY FIXTURES. (By “Binocular. Light rain was falling for early operations at. Princess Doreon (Voitre), who has discarded her bandages, was trotted round prior to doing three-quarter pace for the first portion of her fivo furlongs task, but she quickened up in the straight. She ran tho first two furlongs in 27 2-ssec and the full journoy in 1.4, the, last three furlongs being left behind in 36 3-ssec. While the interruption in her training is bound to have told against the filly, Princess Doreen should nevertheless mako her presence felt at Ellerslie. K. Yoitre, who has been associated with her in racing to date, will bo her pilot. The Derby candidate, La Modern (Chisholm), had a Tribulation gelding (Bradley) as a partner over six furlongs, but they were not out for fast, time, although tho filly came away at the finish to complete her task in 1.20 2-5. has boon somewhat disappointing, she has plenty of racing condition to help her through. Blacksmith (A. McDonald), who will contest the hurdle events at Auckland, was worked the reverse way on tho plough, doing a couple of rounds at a steady pace. Ho will bo jumped the reverse way prior to leaving. As he has not previously raced the reverse way, there is a measure of doubt as to how he will shape. CANDIDATES FOR AWAPUNI.

The first of tho pre-breakfast workers was Sporting Chance, who was restricted to pacework. Tho Lackham gelding has only to stand up to secure some stuke money in the near future. Statuary (Broughton) finished betor than Joyspear (Voitre) at the closo of a seven furlongs task in 1.29 j. The hurdling experience appears to have been beneficial to tho Leighton gelding. Beau Gallante (Rood) strodo along over six furlongs in resolute fashion. His holiday programme is meantime uncertain. Tho two-year-olds Safari (Broughton) and Catalogue (Voitre) were partners over fivo furlongs, running the first two in 26 secs and the full distance in 1.5 4-5. The latter is tho Lord Quex —Catalini gelding from L. Wilson’s stable, and is a commanding type. - Mercian Prince (Thompson) was travelling oqually as well as Lady Court (Reed) at tho close of a five furlongs task in 1.5 4-5. A big, upstanding typo, Mercian Prince should come good with time. Bee Acre jVoitre) had a slight advantage over Nebulae (Broughton) at the end of seven furlongs run in 1.43 4-5, the first two furlongs having taken 25 2-ssecs. Nebulae is improving. Senegal (Reed) who was unlucky in the hack sprint on the second day at Woodville, ran six furlongs alone in 1.18 2-5, the last fivo furlongs taking 1.5. Decree Nisi (Pagan) and the Tea Tray gelding Tannin (Reed) ran an easy six furlongs in 1.24. Neither will be required to race during the holidays. Hint (Hepburn) was too good for Colossian (Chisholm) at tho end of five furlongs run in 1.9, being under a hard pull. Trojan Melody (Bromley), who looks very well, ran a comfortable five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, the last three furlongs in 41 Wait and See ran home from the three furlongs post in 41secs., while Roj'al Jest, a Top Gallant filly who traces to tho Man-o’-war family, negotiated a similar task in 40secs. Tho latter has still to race. After breakfast Minstrel Lad (Voitre) and Hoadland (McDowell) were associated in a gallop, the former jumping away at tho mile post to pick up his companion m the region of the six furlongs post and they ran the last fivo furlongs in 1.6. This was only pair of the late workers to essay fast work. GENERAL. Tho Awapuni trio for Auckland will go north on Monday. Alan McDonald will pilot Blacksmith, while S. Wilson will ride La Modorno in tho Queen’s Plate iiiid I. Atkins in the King’s Plate and Derby.- . His many friends will be pleased to learn that Mr D. Stevens, track supervisor at Awapuni, who recently underwent an operation, is making very favourable progress and there is every hope that ho will be able to return to his own home for Christmas.
