WOODVILLE.
WOODVILLE, Dec. 14. The Bishop of Waipu and Mrs and Miss Williams, spent Monday afternoon at the Vicarage, Woodville. Mrs Williams is staying as the guest of the Vicar and Mrs Davidson, until the end of the week. Mrs B. Ewing has returned to Woodville after a week’s holiday in Wellington. A slight but destructive frost was experienced in Woodville yesterday morning. l’orfect weather favoured the annua! “parents’ day” at the Woodville District High School this afternoon, and there was a Targe attendance. A delightful concert programme was given by the children while later in the afternoon the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. The quarterly meeting of the Woodville Fire Board was hold yesterday afternoon. Mr H. P. Horne presiding. Also present were Messrs J. Elder, A. H. Hustwick, J. W. Norrie and W. G. Hay. The superintendent (Mr H. McNeil) rpeorted that six practices had been held during the quarter, and the attendances had been very good. The 300 foot of hose had been put into good working order. Five plugs were inspected and found to be working well. The resignation of Fireman Pritchard, who had completed 15 years of service, was tendered. The roport was adopted. The board decided to write to Fireman Pritchard .congratulating him on his long term of service. The question of tar sealing the portion in front of the station was left .to the local comi'jittce with power to act. The board decided to sign the draft agreement of sale of tho building and plant from the Borough Council to the board. Tho Mayor, in voting negatively, said that tho council had no intention of paying tho costs of drawing up the agreement. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr Elder conveyed to tho chairman and Mrs Horne tho season’s greetings on behalf of the board, Mr Horne reciprocating. The superintendent also expressed the best wishes of tho brigade to the board members, these being reciprocated also. When questions wore asked regarding tho innovation of the 9 o’clock time signal it was stated lhat while there had been some complaints at first, tho signal was now very popular and filled a definite need, in that thorn was no town clock. The board passed a resolution thanking the postmaster (Mr Mahon) for making arrangements for operating the signal. 1
