GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. HIGH STANDARD ATTAINED. A simple ceremony marked the distribution of the scholastic awards and trophies won in the athletic field at the Girls’ High School, this morning, when the pupils were assembled in two of the class-rooms to receive their awards at the hands of Mrs M. A. Aitchison. The principal (Mrs M. Rhodes, M.A.) in calling on Mrs Aitchison, stated that she required no introduction for she was known to all the pupils as their representative on the Board of Governors and in that capacity had endeared herself to all by reason of the manner in which she had watched the interests of the school. Outside that sphere Mrs Aitchison was equally well known for her many kindly acts and her active association with the public affairs of the city.

In congratulating the principal, the staff and the scholars on their examination successes during the year, Mrs Aitchison stated that the record was one of which the school might well be proud, for it was an exceptionally good one. The standard attained had been a high one and it would only be by 6heer merit and grit that it could be maintained. To those leaving the school tlie speaker expressed the hope that they would always remember their alma mater and carry on the high ideals which had been imparted by their teachers. By s 6 doing they would be doing honour to their school and be worthy citizens of any community. To those returning to further their studies, the speaker hoped that they would come back in the new year filled with the will to do well, for it was only by serious and determined application that the best was attained. They were now entering upon a long holiday and it was her sincere wish that it would prove not only an enjoyable one, but a profitable one, for even much was to bo learned during the vacation. Mrs Aitchison then handed out the prizes, the following being recipients
