HIGH SCHOOL MAGAZINES

TWO INTERESTING PUBLICATIONS.

Tho annual issue of the magazine of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School has just been published and is a very creditable production. The high standard of previous years has been maintained in tho various sections, and the information has been arranged most attractively. A feature is the method employed of commencing many of tho notes with blocks of pen drawings, while photographs of tho school teams and prefects are also prominent. The sporting activities of the school have been Comprehensively reviewed, and each form has its notes, while social activities during the year are recorded. The house successes receive mention, and are presented in an attractive tabloid form. Always an interesting portion of a school magazine, that part devoted to original contributions is well justified. Poetry predominates, and there arc several fine efforts, but prose is also represented. Tho close touch which is kept with the old pupils is clearly demonstrated in tho notes of the activities of those who have left the school, and the success obtained by these girls in various spheres is notable. A most interesting record of tho year’s work, which also includes that of the Parents’ Association, concludes with a travel article by an old pupil, who writes convincingly of a trip to America and Canada.

The Palmerstonian, the magazine of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, has just been published and furnishes- a very complete record of the activities on the scholastic and sporting sides of the school’s year, which is now drawing to a close. The athletic life of the school is particularly well treated, covering cricket, football, tennis, boxing, swimming and life-saving. Records of the military drill activities, battery and infantry, are compiled in an interesting manner, while the various club activities are reviewed. The usual College House notes appear, and a particularly fine selection is included under the original contributions .section. Old boys’ notes are again featured and, as in past years, constitute an interesting record of the careers of many ex-pupils. The magazine is a very readable production and worthily succeeds the issues of past years.
