RESIDENTS OF BOMBAY TOWN
CALCUTTA, Dec. 8. The little town of Bardoli, in the Gujaret district of tho Bombay Presidency., which was formerly a hotbed of civil disobedience, gave the .Governor and Lady Sykes an enthusiastic welcome when they toured the place yesterday. Two years ago no Governor dareci to enter tho town without a strong military police force, but now the inhabitants have dissociated themselves from Congress and are intensely loyal. They frankly admit that they have seen the error of their ways. Sir Frederick Sykes even visited the former headquarters of Congress, once a liotbed of sedition and intrigue. He held a picturesque durbar, attended by leading townsmen, where he announced substantial remissions of land revenue as a reward for the people’s loyalty.
