CAMP FOR GUIDERS
TRAINING FOR LICENSES. FORTNIGHT AT NEWBURY. Nineteen guiders drawn from the Hawke’s Bay, Wellington and Manawatu district who have been in camp at Newbury Line for a fortnight training for guiders’ certificates qualifying them as proficient to take children into camp, will strike tents to-mor-row after an instructive and enjoyable period and return to their homes. Some of the guiders are from Masterton, Palmerston North and Eketahuna. They are all under the supervision of Miss J. McHardy, Commissioner for Hawke’s Bay, and Miss J. Duthie, Blue Cord Diplomaed Guider, of Wellington. Instruction has been given in outdoor cooking over open trench fires, camp hygiene, wood craft, Scout games, and care of tents. The Court of Honour has met daily to arrange fatigue duty and the work has been carried out under tiie patrol system, each patrol having different aresponsibility each day. The camp constitutes the practical examination for the guider’s camp license, and will be followed later bv a theoretical paper. The camp is the first one held in the district for guiders for some years since that conducted at Feilding. It has been located in ideal surroundings at Mr McHardy’s beautiful property “Beaulieu,” which has been admirable for field tests, and is provided with swimming baths.
