OROUA COUNTY

ENGINEER’S REPORT

The engineer, Mr R. L. Bfarding, presented the following report at the monthly meeting of the Oroua County Council this afternoon: Eastern Riding.—Little besides ordinary maintenance work has been done in this riding. Palmerston-Ash-hurst Road: The scaled surface from the county boundary to Manawatu Gorge has been carefully inspected and any parts that showed signs of breaking or appeared to be at all open were patched with emulsified bitumen. The surface is in good condition and the work done was very inexpensive. A similar inspection and repairs will lie carried out periodically until authority is obtained to apply a light topdressing over the whole length. Manawatu Gorge Road : This road is in good order, the bitumen surface having been repaired where necessary and watertables attended to. TannuiBunnythorpe Road : The work of repairing and topdressing any open portions of the sealed surface of this road has been put in hand. General: Tho road in front of the school at Bunnytliorpo has been attended to. The grass margin between the metal a.nd tho watertable has been graded and the road regravelled. Portions of the Bunnythorpe Road have also received similar treatment. Some gravel repairs have been carried out on Stoney Creek Road. Relief Work, No. 5 Scheme: Work has continued as usual, tho majority of the men being engaged in concreting the footpaths in Ashhurst cemetery. Several corners on Watershed and Spur Roads have been improved. Western Riding.—lvimbolton Road: The sealed surface of the road has been inspected and repaired where necessary: very little was reouired to l>e done as the surface is in good order. No, 2 Crushing Plant: This plant has been working almost continuously during the mouth and gravel has been spread on the following roads: Mangaone 152 yards, Bingaroa 36, Halcoinbe township 104, Fergusson’s 252. Mt. Biggs 220, Stanway-Halcombe 56, rejects dumped near crusher 112. Relief Work No. 5 Scheme: AVork in the Halcombe area has been confined to clearing gorse and draining. Junction Road hill has been widened and corners cut linen! to give better vision. At Cheltenham men have been engaged fencing off willows recently put in to protect the Olmadale property.

The following alterations were made to the county rolls: Stern Bros, to John H. Stern, J. E. Fergusson to L. 11. O. AVishnowskv, A. J. Dav to Jesse H. Thorp.

TREASURER’S REPORT. JTlie treasurer reported:—Amount of rates collected, current year, £1544 6s 4d; total rates outstanding (three years), Native £783 13s Bd, Crown £6O 15s, European £899 7s 7d ; total rates outstanding, previous three years £1749 19s 3d, collected (European) £282 6s 2d; outstanding December, 1932, £1461 13s Id. Riding Accounts: Expenditure on maintenance, western riding, £1207 3s sd; eastern riding, £l3Ol 16s Bd.
