MEASURES IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Nov. 23. In referring to schemes for tile alleviation of unemployment, the Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald, has more than once mentioned the promotion of a coal hydrogenation process for the extraction of petrol and other oils as a mean of stimulating the mining industry, and the newspapers state that many members of the Government are favourably impressed by the lesults of investigations undertaken on this subject. Extension of. land settlement and allotment schemes and the encouragement of home crafts in rural areas as a means of providing useful occupations and maintaining moral are also among the proposals. Lord Hailsham, War Minister, stated in the House of Lords last night that 60,000 unemployed now possessed garden allotments and that the Government hoped that during the coming year 30,C00 additional allotments would be provided. The Prince of Wales dined with the King and Queen at Buckingham Palace last nigiit prior to leaving by the night train for Lancashire on a twodays visit to Liverpool and surrounding towns. The Prince will tour tho thickly populated industrial areas of the country to gain a first-hand knowledge of present conditions.
