PERSONAL.

The late Rev. R. C. Stewart, Presbyterian minister at Hikurangi, who died suddenly this week, was a man of powerful personality. His early days were spent at sea and he became a master mariner while still a young man. His religious convictions caused him to take charge of the Seamen’s Mission at Lyttelton, where he won the approbation of all denominations. He was appointed minister at Gonville, Wanganui, and later went to fill a three months’ vacancy at Hikurangi, where he was so appreciated by all sections of, the community that • a unanimous wish was expressed to the Presbytery that he should be made minister. For three years and three months he had been in charge of the Hiicurangi Church. Mr Stewart is survived by a widow and a family of six, tbe youngest being twins four years of age.
