THE WEATHER

A slight anti-cyclone covers New Zealand, while a moderate cyclonic depression is located off tho New South YVales coast. Light to moderate and variable winds with southerlies prevailing at first, but backing gradually to north-east and north. Seas smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Freshening northerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea; seas smooth to moderate, but rising. Weather fair to fine; temperatures milder to-day. DISTRICT REPORTS.

The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day : —The indications are for variable and moderate breezes, south-easterly prevailing. There is a prospect of fair weather, temperatures becoming warmer, but after about 16 hours clouding over with rain later. The barometer has a falling tendency.
