CENTRAL SCHOOL.
AIEETING OF COAIAIITTEE.
The monthly meeting of tho Central School Committee was held last cvenI ing, Air W. G. Black presiding. Also present were Alessrs Garden, Robson, , Tait, Cameron, Jarrett, Gordon and Kerslake (secretary). There was an apology for Air Taylor’s absence. The headmaster (Air E. Bary) ported that the present roll was 792. The attendances for the last four weeks had been 750, 757, 748 and 759. He suggested that, as the partition in the hall was of no further use to the school, it be disposed of and tho proceeds placed to tho library fund. An automatic door stop could also be sold. The Kia Football Club annually presented to tho school a trophy for the boy who had shown the greatest improvement, tlie winner on this occasion being Leslie Alanderson. Ho had been promoted to the senior team at the beginning of the season, qualified for the Alanawatu primary school representatives, and represented Alanawatu schools in the four games played in AVcllington. Air Bary thanked Alessrs Alexander Clark, Ltd., for a supply of wallpaper samples hooks, which had proved very useful to the school. He made a number of recommendations in regard to the hours of use of the baths, also that tickets be issued to the Central Swimming Club on certain conditions. An officer of the club should be responsible to the committee for the custody of tho baths and the conduct of the members whilst occupying the baths.—Adopted. The chairman reported that the baths had been emptied and cleaned, having received one coat of paint. Air Bary stated that up to Alonday afternoon 40 season tickets had been sold.
The committee drew up a scale of charges for the baths and decided to make a rebate to tho Swimming Club. It was decided that endeavours he made to dispose of the wooden partition, referred to by the headmaster. It was decided to thank the Kia Toa Club for its donation and to congratulate the winner.
A letter of appreciation is to ho forwarded to Airs De Vantier for her annual donation of £1 to tho school funds.
The Wanganui Education Board forwarded a supplementary grant of £lO. —Received. Advice was forwarded by the hoard that as Miss Grant had resumed duty, Air Loot’s term as relieving teacher would conclude.—Received.
Pastor AY. E. Richards applied for the privilege of conducting one hour’s Bible instruction weekly in the school. There was a discussion on the subject and it was decided that the matter be considered at the next meeting. It was decided, in regard to a circular from the AA’anganui Education Board, to grant the pupils AA'ednesdav and Friday half holidays for the Royal Show.
The AVcllington School Committees’ and Educational Federation forwarded a request that the committee support the formation of a national federation of school committees to deal with matters of Dominion-wide interest to committees.
The chairman pointed out that such an organisation, while it might he unanimous in its opinion on certain matters, might not actually express the view of tile majority of parents. On tho chairman’s motion it was decided that no action lie taken in regard to the letter until the Palmerston North and District School Committees’ Association arrived at a decision on tho various matters concerned.
