THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The westerly, depression is now crossing New Zealand; but has become very shallow. Barometers are still very high at most places. Winds variable and moderate to fresh, with north to west prevailing. Seas rather rough at times in Cook and Foveaux Straits; otherwise smooth to moderate. Light to moderate and variable winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, with south-west to north-west prevailing. There will be isolated showers in western districts and the far south; but otherwise fair to fine. Temperatures moderate. DISTRICT REPORT. WARMER TEMPERATURES. The Governmant meteorologist telegraphed to-day : —The indications are for moderate but freshening northerly winds. There is a prospect of fair weather and warm temperatures. The barometer will shortly commence to slowly fall.
