EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD ” OCTOBER 3, 1902. It was cabled that the winding rope at a colliery in Pontypool, Wales, snapped, and the cage, with, eight men, fell 690 feet. All were dashed to death. The Trades Council at Wellington had decided to take immediate steps towards the creation of one federation of labour for the whole colony. Mr S. Bolton had announced himself as a candidate “opposed to Seddouism” for the Pahiatua seat at the pending genera.! election.
