HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS.

MOTOR CYCLISTS INJURED. A motoring accident of a serious naturo occurred on the main highway near Newbury yesterday afternoon when, as a result, a young man was seriously injured. Mr Edward carpenter, of 13 Church Street, with Mr Pattrick Paiensi, of 4 Ashley Street, was riding his motor cycle into Palmerston Nortkh, Mr Palenski being in the side-chair. It appears that the tyre became displaced from the sidechair wheel and the motor cycle capsized. Mr Wingate, of Princess Street, Palmerston North, was the first to arrive on the schene and Mr Palenski was found unconscious, although Mr Carpenter could sit up. The Free Ambulance conveyed the men to the Palmerston North Hospital, where Mr Palenski was found to be suffering from severe concussion, facial and arm injuries, and Mr Carpenter a fractured left forearm, dislocated left collarbone and slight concusion. Mr Palenski was still unconscious to-day and Mr Carpenter’s condition was satisfactory.

COLLISION IN CITY. Shortly after mid-day yesterday, a collision occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Botanical ltoda, although no one was injured. A car, driven by Mr Robert Emmett, a ranger, of 63 Botanical Road, was pulled up on the roadside to permit of two approaching vehicles passing. Another car, driven by Mr J. McNeece, of Hastings containing also Messrs F. and M. Maliony, came along and a collision took place between it and Mr Emmett’s car. Both cars sustained severe damage. CYCLING ACCIDENT. An accident which was, fortunately, not attended by serious consequences occurred on Friday when a boy, William J. Dutton, aged 8 years, of Waldegravo Street, who was riding a small bicycle, collided with a motor lorry driven by Mr P. W. Gosgrave. The boy sustained only a slight cut behind an ear.
