PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Sept. 26. Miss Atkinson, of Island Bay, Wellington, iB the guest of Mrß John Gregory, Mangaliao. Mrs D. Corbett, Napier, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. D. C. Crowe, Wakeman Street. Mr and Mrs W. Tattle were visitors to Palmerston North for the week-end. Mr and Mrs H. D. Grocott, Wellington, and formerly of Pahiatua, were visiting here over the woek-end. The many friends of Miss Mildred Boyd will be pleased to hear that she is making excellent progress after an operation to her foot. Miss McGoldrick. Wniroa, is visiting her aunt, Mrs Climie, Tararua Street.
Thero passed away at New Plymouth recently a former well-known resident of this district, Mr George Hodges Main. The deccnsed 'gentleman, who was about 60 years of age, was born in Melbourne and with his brother, Mr. E. Main, of Eketahuna, came to New Zoaland as a young man. He lived in the Bush district for 20 years and married a sister of Mr J. Stewart, of Konini. For years ho carried on a butchery business at Ilukanui. He was an old Bush representative footballer and was later secretary of the Bush Rugby Union when its headquarters were at Ilamua.
The first annual mooting of the Miakomako Defence Rifle Club was held in the Makomako Hall on Friday evening, there being a good attendance of members present. Tho president of the. club, Mr F. Ebbett, presided. The election of officers for the coming season resulted as follows : President, Mr Ebbett; deputy-president, Mr W. Rising; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Sargent; management committee, Messrs C. Garlick, W. Day, G. Day, H. Sowry, W. Eising and the president and the secretary.
