RANGIOTU
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, Sept. 9. The monthly meeting of the Rangiotu School Committeo was held on Wednesday evening, Mr J. Shaw presiding. Also present were Messrs Moore, Donaldson, Carkcek, Russell (secretary) and the headmistress, Mins Thompson. The children’s concert, held prior to the fortnight’s vacation, realised £1 os 8d to augment the funds of the jubileee committee, it was reported. Accounts amounting to £1 8s 10d were passed for payment. Miss Thompson reported that the average attendance last term was 50, the total roll number being 55. It was decided to withdraw from the calf club competition this season owing to lack of support; only two entries to date have been received. Correspondence was read from the Wanganui Kducation Hoard regarding show holidays and the committee decided to Icavo the matter of allocating the holiday to the next monthly meeting. A discussion on general lines followed the reading of a letter from the Dental Clinic Committee, Palmerston North, intimating that the school had been placed on the roll. It was resolved to bold the matter in abeyance, and in tho meantime I the secretary is to write to to the clinic authorities for further detailed information. Following the School Committee meeting the roeontly appointed committee of tho jubilco celebrations met. Tho secretary (Mr E. Russell) reported that the proccods from the euchre and danco function held several weeks ago amounted to £7 6s 4d; the total funds to date were £8 12*. It was anticipated that when all the donations were handed in by the next meeting of the committee a substantial amount would accrue. The programme drawn up and arranged for the occasion was submitted for the members’ perusal and it was decided to send a copy each to as many ex-pupils as possible. Tho offer mado by Mr IT. Aker*, of the loan of a large marquee tent, was gratefully accepted. Various sub-committees were appointed, and it is confidently anticipated that with the combined efforts and mutual support of the residents of the district and ex-pupils a fitting and successful jubilee will result.
