LINTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, Sept. 9. At the monthly meeting of the* School Committee there were present Messrs MoBrcarty, Collis, Morriman, Aldrich and Nash. Tho headmaster's roport stated that the roll number was 40 and the average attendance 38. No new pupils had been admitted during the month. Seven pupilts had entered for tho mangold growing competition. Owing to tho difficulties in transport, tho pupils decided not to enter the Calf Club competition. Mr Murdoch informed tho committee that, after 15 years at the local school, he had decided to resign his position and enter into retirement. Tho members expressed regret at Mr Murdoch's decision and wished him success in his now sphere. Tho concert and dance at tho close of last term yielded a profit of £7 14s 6d. This brings the total amount for the school library up hr £ll 14s lid. Accounts amounting to £3 6s lid were passed for payment. The meetings will now be bold at 8 p.in. instead of 7.30 as during the winter months. It was decided to spend the sum of £lO on books, for tho library as soon as tho list of books is approved by tho borvd. Miss Anderson, of Hawke’s Bay, is tho guest of Mrs Walker. At the last meeting of the Miniature Riflo Club the scores wero as follow: —S. Free, 67—67—134; T. Romley, G. Morriman, 69—62—131; H. Aldrich. 64 66—130: M. Craw, 64—60—130; M.
