PREVENTION OF WAR
CONGRESS IN AMSTERDAM. INTERNATIONAL GATHERING. TWO THOUSAND DELEGATES. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 29, 9.15 a.m. AMSTERDAM, Aug. 28. Described as a passionato call to men and women throughout tho world to prevent war, which may break out to-morrow and destroy civilisation, the Anti-war Congress opened with 2000 delegates signing the Internationale. Professor Einstein (Germany) and M. Romain Rollaud (France) were prevented from attending owing to illness. M. Honri Barbousso, who is leading a strong French delegation, opened the discussion. Ho urged public opinion to unite against the coming world war which would bo “the murderer of civilisation.”
An Italian, Professor Miglioni, was elected president. Tho German delegation numbers 500; and tho British 80 including members of tho Labour Party and the trades unions.
Tho Russian delegation, which was refused a visa by Holland, telegraphed stressing the necessity of uniting tho masses against the danger of war.
