MILSON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) AIILSON, Aug. 28.

The annual meeting of the Milson Tennis Club wan held in the hall, Air J. Gilbert (president) presiding over a fair attendance. In presenting his annual report the president commented on the successful season just completed. “Matches were played with St. Patrick’s, Takaro, Fire Brigade, Tokomaru, Hokowhitu, and a team from a local private hotel,” ho said. “The club had the advantage of two courts and the extra one was of great benelit, providing, as it did, for the increased membership, and abolishing excessive waiting. A third court has been commenced, but it still requires much work to make it fit for use, und in this connection I exhort all members to make the necessary sacrifice of their time and complete tho work we have started, as the additional court is absolutely essential.” In conclusion, Air Gilbert wished the members a very successful and pleasant season. It is expected that the membership for the coming season will again be high, and the completion- of the third court will enable tho club to accept all applications. The club secretary (Air R. Dunn) submitted the bal-ance-sheet for the year. It is interesting to note that of tho amount iof revenue derived (£27 12s 2d), the sum of just on £l6 was put back into the courts and surroundings by way of improvements. The four dances held did not come up to expectations, the profit on two of them being absorbed by the loss on tho other two. The workings’ for tho year ns disclosed by the balance-sheet show a debit balance of 19s 9d. The duties appertaining to tho position of club captain were discussed at some length, and were eventually satisfactorily decided on. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Air D. Emms; vicepresident, Air J. Gilbert; secretary, AJr R. Dunn (re-elected); club captain, Air H. Brown; vice-captain, Air L. L. .1 ay lor; auditor, Air W. Fairburn; the committee to consist’of the five executive officers, and Air C. Leslie. Air Gilbert called on Air Emms the newly-elected president, to take his seat and conducted the further business of the meeting. A hearty vote of thanKe, carried by acclamation, was accorded the retiring president. In acknowledging the vote. Mr Gilbert said that he had endeavoured to give of his beet, and would continue to do so. The subscriptions wore fixed on the same rates as those prevailing last year, the sum of 2n 6d to be added to those not paid on or before November 15. The opening date for the season was fixed for early in October. Air J J. Gilbert, who has been spending a’vacation in Auckland and Dannevirke, returned to Aiilson during the week.
