ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
PALMERSTON NORTH BRANCH. Arrangements for the liberation ol 90,000 trout fry, and the distribution of the various quotas, were discussed at a meeting of tlie executive of the Palmerston North branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last evening. There were twenty members in attendance, and a number of apologies for absence were received. The Wellington Society forwarded details of the allocation of brown and rainbow yearlings. Tlie matter of granting the ranger a bonus had been held in abeyance. The branch recommendations regarding regulations at Taupo had been fully discussed, and it had been decided to submit the following remit to the conference of the associated societies to be held on October 12 and 13: That tbe Taupo fishing license cover the course of the Waikato River from tlie present Taupo fishing boundary to a point one mile below the Aratiritea rapids. —Received. The conservator of fish and game wrote in regard to the tagging ol trout, forwarding a sample of the tags used by the department. The tag was fixed to the rear part of the dorsal fin it was explained, the possibility of injury through friction thus being reduced to a minimum.—Received. It was stated that a limit ot lo trout daily had been fixed for tho season and it was resolved to protest strongly against the new restriction. The chairman also voiced an objection to the manner in which the new law had been brought into force without the sub-committees being consulted. It was resolved to ask the council that sub-committees in future be acquainted with all proposals before they are adopted and framed.
