LIFE IN RUSSIA.

UNIONIST'S GLOOAIY PICTURE

Members of the Victorian branch of the Railways Union having failed to contribute sufficient funds to defray the expenses of sending a delegate to Russia, Mr L. A. Mullins, who returned recently, is giving a series of lectures on conditions in Russia on behalf of the union. Speaking at Melbourne, Mr Mullins said that the >Soviet had no respect for patent rights. Emissaries were sent to every country, and as soon as a new machine gun or tank was patented, no stone was left unturned until a pattern was obtained for use in Russia. The same course was followed with motor cars and locomotives. There were weaknesses in the Soviet system. The Russians did as they liked, as there were no “bosses.” ibis meant that there was much overlapping. When they came to a problem they would stop work to talk it over. In sa.nitation and hygiene, Russia was a long way behind other countries. This mode of living had caused a spread of tuberculosis, and there had been some terrible cases in tbe samtoriiims round the Black Sea. Steps were now being taken to educate the peasants.
