WOODVILLE

WOODVILLE, Aug. 26.

On Wednesday afternoon the Woodvillo Gun Club hold tho club and county championships. The shooting was of a fair standard and tho event was won by A. W. Thompson (Palmerston North), with 16 birds. The scores were as follow: A. W. Thompson 16, It. G. Smith 16, B. IC. Thompson 14, F. D. Flackio 12, G. B. do Ath 11, C. Mackio 11, M. Kcarins 10, J. T. Horne 9, J. Martin 9, A. Ramsdon 8, R. Smith 7, G. Morgan 5. Tho county championship, open to members of tho club residing in tho Woodvillo county, was annexed by R. G. Smith with 14 birds out of 17, C. Mackio being runner-up with 13. This is the third successive win in this event by Mr Smith, who now wins the cup outright. Scores woro as follow: R. G. Smith 14, C. Mackio 13, J. Horno 11, F. D. Mackio 10.

In tho evening tho club held its annual meeting, when Mr R. G. Smith presided over an attendance of some 20 members. Tho annual report regretted that tho financial membership of tile club had again fallen off slightly. Tho year’s activities had for this reason been curtailed, it having been tho opinion of tho committee that it would bo a wise move to well, and on each occasion when a shoot had been held there had been a good muster of members. An innovation in the form of a “skoct” shoot for ladies’ day had proved very successful. Congratulations woro extended to Mr A. W. Thompson on winning tho club championship and to Mr R. G. Smith’ on winning tho county championship for the third timo in succession, thereby winning tho Toogood Cup outright. Financially, tho club wa3 still in a very healthy position. Thanks wore again duo to Messrs G. L. Ilartridgo, W. H. Toogood and T. 11. Williams for their assistance during tho yoar. Tho following officers woro elected: l’atron, Mr W. 11. Nelson; president, Mr A. Ramsdnn; vicepresidents, Messrs R. G. Smith, S. Turnbull, J. I. N. Mackio, W. W. Cook, T. Kcarins, C. Mackio, W. H. Toogood and A. E. Brittain; hon. secretary, Fir F. I). Maokie; rommittee, Messrs G. Morgan G. L. Ilartridgo, J. Horne, G. do Ath, J. J. Maboy, and J. Martin; refereo and handicappcr, Mr W. 11. Toogood: hon. auditor, Fir Robertson. Immediately after tho mooting tho club held its annual dinner, when about 40 members and visitors eat down to a repast, generously supplied by Flessrs R. G. Smith and S. Turnbull. Several toasts wero honoured. A jolly evening was spent in song and story, tlioso contributing items being Flmor Potter and Flessrs F. Cousins, W. Miller, B. Hansel, C. 11. Slater, N. 11. Rawson and P. Ilabono.
