HORSE POISONED.

DISCOVERY IN AUSTRALIA. Received August 18, 10.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, Aug. 18. Tho racehorse Valmist, who was engaged in two events at tho Werribeo races yesterday, was found lying hi his box in agony, being tho victim of a doping plot. Beside the animal, was a bundle of grass which had not been placed there by tho trainer, Fishwick. A veterinary surgeon found that tho horse displayed symptoms of alkaloid poisoning, but owing to the skilful administration of another preparation, which had dried up the saliva, a swab could not be taken. The horse recovered rapidly after it was given an alkaloid antidote.
