LANCASTER ACQUITTED.

CONCLUSION OF MURDER TRIAL.

Received August 18, 10.45 a.m. MIAMI, Aug. 17. Captain Lancaster, who was charged with the murder of Haden Clarke, was acquitted. Judge Atkinson told the jury that, to find Lancaster guilty as a result of circumstantial evidence, they must find that the circumstances were inconsistent with innocence. Tho jury deliberated for live hours. ASSERTIONS BY COUNSEL. Aha All, Aug. 16. Assertions that the personal diary o:f Captain Lancaster day after day carried death threats to the man who stole the love of Mrs Keith Alillor were made by the State Attorney, Mr. Hawthorne,‘to the jury who heard the trial of Lancaster. “The defence teils you that this man committed suicide,” he said. “The State witnesses, who are uncontradicted, show that the murder was contemplated clear across tho continent by a man who is capable, cold and crafty. His diary shows his intent day after day to kill Clarke.” His argument was followed by a fourhour pica by Air Carson, counsel for tho defence.
