WOODVILLE.
WOODYILLE, June 24. Mr A. H. Vile left to-day for Wellington. Captain J. Reid, of Eltham, is spending a short holiday with frionds in this district. Mr A. G. Dumbloton, of Tapanui (Otago) is staying with Mr and Mrs R. R. Johnston. Tho installation of Bro. R. R. Johnston as Worshipful Master and the investituro of officers of Lodgo Ruahine took place on Wednesday ovening. Visiting brethren were present from tho whole of tho surrounding districts, some having come from as far distant as Mangawoka and Tapanui. R.W. Rov. Bro. Waugh, Provincial Grand Master, acted as Installing Master, and he was assisted by Grand Lodgo officers. A banquet was subsequently held in tho Foresters’ Hall.
At 2.40 this morning tho Woodville nightwatchman was advised by a motorist that two olectrio poles wore down at tho railway crossing near the Manawatu Gorge. Ho immediately communicated with Mr Smith, of tho Power Board, who was promptly on tho scene. In spito of tho very inclement weather thoro was a good attendance of members at tho monthly mooting of tho Kumoroa Women’s Institute held on Tuesday last. Mrs B. H. Norman, president, was in tho chair. Miss Olwyn Cranfield, of Hopolands, gave an interesting demonstration on tho making of paper flowers. On tho motion of Miss Ivy O’Hagon, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded tho demonstrator. An amusing roll call, “What Our Mon Folk Think of tho Women’s Institute,” brought forth somo interesting answers. Mrs J. O'Neil had on exhibition a rug made of cow tails which was much admired. The hostesses woro Mrs Norman and Mrs Nowbrook.
