IN LIBERIA.

CHARGE AGAINST AUTHORITIES. WOMEN AND CHILDREN MASSACRED. Received May 19, 11.55 a.m. GENEVA, May 18. The killing or burning alive of men, women and children, and the setting on fire of 44 villages, are among the charges against the Liberian authorities admitted by the Liberian delegation, which asserted that measures were necessary to maintain order. Eighty-one men, 49 women and 29 children are known to have been massacred, and it is believed that many have been burned. The committee dealing with Liberian affairs resolved urgently to recommend the Council to send a representative to the Kru Coast to assist in the pacification of the country and encourage the tribes to return to their villages under conditions of security.
