PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME.

SENTENCES AT WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 19. The following prisoners were sentenced in the Supreme Court: —Edward John Watson, aged 29, forgery and attempted uttering and theft, six months on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent; Charles Henry Freeman, aged 30, attempted serious offence at Uannevirke, three years’ hard labour; Edward Roy Hawkey, indecent assault, two years’ hard labour; John Rupert Lawrence and Thomas Patrick Cuttle, jointly charged with theft, six months’ hard labour; Kenneth Joseph Payne, aged 21, breaking and entering with intent and breaking and entering and theft, two years’ probation and ordered to pay the costs and repay £2; William 'Alexander Crossam, breaking and entering and theft, being found by night in possession of housebreaking instruments, and escaping from custody, two years’ hard labour; Thomas Leslie Alexander, aged 23, broach of probation, two years’ hard labour, concurrent with the present term; William Simmonds, aged 48, breaking and entering and theft, two years’ probation; George Richard Seddon Gray, theft, two years’ probation on condition that £2l 15s is repaid and also £1 Is costs; Thomas Leslie Alexander, aged 23, breach of probation, two years’ hard labour, concurrent with the present term; Horace John Anderson, theft at New Plymouth, two years’ hard labour, concurrent, on each of two charges.
