THE COMPETITIONS.
THIS MORNING’S RECALLS. A large number of sections were decided at the Manawatu Competitions Society’s Festival this morning. The Opera House, the Municipal Hall and All Saints’ Hall were again used and there was a fair attendance at each place. There were large entries in some sections, but the time-tablo was adhered to very well. The detailed results are as follow: RECITATION, girls under 12. (“My Shadow.”)

Roberts and I. Roberts (Pohangina), “Venetian Song” 2. The only competitors. The judge commented that tho first prize winners had very sweet voices, the contralto being especially fine. There was not quite the same decision in the case .of the second prize winners. Mr Barry Coney commented that the Municipal Hall was really too resonant for singers. TEST RECITATION, Girls under 16.
