WOODVILLE, May 16. ‘ Mi 33 Muriel Hitchings, of Kilbimie, Wellington, is the guest of Mr and Mrs R. 11. Morgan, of Woodville. In tho first round of tho Elder Cup golf match W. Norman beat J. Redwood, and R. Peebles won from J. Elder. At the ladies’ medal match Miss E. Peebles and Miss A. King proved the winners. The junior grade Rugby match between Woodville and Bunnythorpe attracted a number of enthusiasts. The first spell was played at a fast pace but was confined mostly to the forwards, the only score being a penalty goal by Bunnythorpe. In the second spell, tho Bunnythorpo backs opened up the game and scored four tries, converting one, while Woodville failed to open their account. The final score was 19 to nil. Woodville fourths played United and, although meeting a much heavier and older team, emerged victorious by six to four. Halford scored two trios for Woodville, whilst United’s score consisted of a field’ goal. A pleasant afternoon was spent by members and friends of the Papatawa Women’s Institute at the monthly meeting, Mrs A. Dickins occupied the chair. A surprise visit was paid by ladio3 of tho Woodville Institute. Mrs Munro, who was the delegate appointed to represent the Papatawa Women’s Institute at the federation meeting, hold at Waipukurau, gave an account of tho business. Mrs Halpin demonstrated tho making of wool-filled quilts. ’ Tho competition for something useful made from a yard of cretonne was won by Mrs Munro. Afternoon tea was served by tho hostesses, Mesdames Goldsworthy and R. Bradley and Miss E. Hutchinson and Miss Bradley. ' WOODVILLE, May 17. The Ballance Women’s Institute met on Wednesday, Mrs A. Wendle presiding. There was a good attendance of members, and Mesdames Luff and Sutton (Wellington), who judged tho scono competition, and Miss Gladys Gyde, of Ilastwells, wore welcomed as visitors. The competition for tiie best plate of ihreo scones was won by Miss E. Croad, Mrs Watt being second and Mrs Horne third. Tho roll call was “My Favourite Poet.” A demonstration on paper rose making was given by Misses T. Jones and A. Polglaso. A report on the recent and dance was read, and thanks wore extended to those who had holpod to make the function a success.
