TAIKOREA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIKOREA, May 15. On Saturday t{ie competition match between the Taikorea and Sandon football teams was played at Taikorea in the presence of a large number of spectators. Rain threatened in the morning, but the weather cleared about eleven and the afternoon was moderately fine. From the kick off Taikorea took the offensive and carried play to within the blues’ twentyfive. A score looked imminent when a mark taken by a Sandon man and kicked well downfield gave relief. The Sandon team carried play down to the reds’ twenty-five and things were beginning to look interesting when a free kick to the reds eased the situation. From a passing rush Ward took the ball to run nearly half the length of the field to touch down in a fairly good position, but failed to add the major points. Excitement ran high when Short ran from a Bcrum near the Sandon line and looked like scoring, but he was tackled and the ball went out only two or three feet from the blues’ lino. Reg. Algar tried for a score with a beautiful kick, but just failed to clear the upright. In the last quarter things. were looking bad for the reds when Christie liehir’s kick found the line and eased the situation. The blues broke away from a scrum and kicked the ball well over the reds’ line, whereat there was a race to touch down; O’Connor beat the Sandon man and saved a score. From a scrum Ingram broke away to run for what looked a sure try, but O’Connor tackled a short distance from the line and brought his man down. The game ended; Taikorea, 3; Sandon, nil. Both teams put in good work, the individual play on both sides being exceptionally good. The scrums and line-outs were fairly evenly divided, while the best kicking was for penalties away frojn the. goal and a number of good long kicks for the line. Mr F. Carrol was referee. The Taikorea dairy factory is now making 12 cheese daily. Mr R. Algar, second assistant, commences his annual holiday this week. Masters Teddy and Robin Turner are spending the Ma} holidays with Mrs Prior. Miss Lover, of Rangiotu, is staying with her sister, Mrs Prior. Mrs Murphy and her children are staying with Mr and Mrs M. Hohir. Mrs Murphy comes from Toko, rnngi. Miss Howse is the guest of her sifter, Mrs J. Hehir. Mrs Turner, of Stanway who has been staying with her daughter ’Mrs Castle, has left Taikorea.
