Cr. G. C. Keeblo was granted leave of absence by the City Council last evening owing to indisposition. Rev. V. A. Bianchi, curate in charge at Wanganui East, has been appointed to tho Pahiatua parish. Mr F. A. Dunstall, postmaster at Kimbolton, has been appointed to succeed Mr H. 0. Barker, at Queenstown, Otago.
Tho engineer (Mr J. It. Hughes) was unable to be present at the meeting of the City Council last night owing to indisposition and was granted leave of' absence.
Appreciation of the services being rendered to the association by Mr W. J. Croucher in an entirely voluntary capacity was expressed by the Manawatu and West, Coast A. and P. Association committee to-day.
Tho City Council at its meeting la?t night passed a motion of sympathy with Cr W. B. Cameron in the death of his father, who passed away at Dunedin recently. The death has occurred at Otaraia, Martinborough, of Air Arthur Martin, aged 68 3-ears, a son of the late Air John Alartin. the pioneer settler ftf Alartinborough, who laid out the present town.
At the meeting of the Alanawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association committee to-day appreciation was expressed that Air R. O. Dalrymple had sufficiently recovered from his illness to leave Hospital and return home.. Regret will be felt that Air G. F. Parker, caretaker of the, North Showgrounds, is seriously ill in Hospital. Tho A. and P. Association to-day decided to forward him a letter of sympathy.
A resolution of condolence with Airs T. Saunders, of Glen Oroua, and the wife of a member of the general committee, in the death of her father, was passed by tho Alanawatu and AVest Coast A. and P. Association to-daj\
Thc tf Palmerston North City Council last evening passed a resolution conveying to Cr H. B. Free its best wishes for the continued progress towards recovery of his son Ivan, who recently met with a serious accident at Alastcrton.
Air D. Dickie (Palmerston North) who was recently elected an honorary life member of the Alanawatu and AA'est Coast A. and P. Association, was welcomed to the meeting of the general committee to-day by the president, who paid a warm tribute to his past services.
Alessrs J. K. Hornblow (chairman) and A. J. Phillipps (managing-secre-tary) were yesterday afternoon appointed by the Palmerston North Hospital Board as it.s delegates to the Hospital Board’s Association conference at AVellington on June 9. Congratulations were extended by the president (Air AI. A. Eliott) at the meeting of the general committee of the Alanawatu and AA'est Coast A. and P. Association to-day to two members, Alessrs G. Shannon and P. G. Alildon, upon their election to the Kairanga County Council. Reference was made at tho meeting of the City Council last night to the death of Air A. Rush, who was in the employ of the city for between 25 and 30 years and for many years a foreman. It was decided that a letter of sympathy be forwarded to the widow and family of deceased. Air Justice Frazer (chairman of the Transport Appeal Board), Air Thomas Jordag, of Alasterton, and Air Lisle Alderton, of Auckland (members of the board) and Air J. A. Gilmour, .registrar of the Arbitration Court, who is acting as secretary of the board, arrived in Palmerston North last evening from Napier. They will leave for Auckland by tho Limited express this evening.
Mr Maurice Cohen, of Palmerston North, leaves Wellington for San Francisco to-day, and he will be absent from the Dominion for six or seven months. Mr Cohen has been authorised to represent the Wellington Harbour Board at a conference of port authorities to bo held in Los Angeles at the end of July. Twice previously he has represented Wellington at conferences in the United States. Advice that His Excellency the Gov-ernor-General (Lord Bledisloe) would be unable to accept an invitation to attend the National Dairy Show at Palmerston North in June owing to the fact that he will then, according to present plans, ho in residence in Auckland, was received by the general committee of tho Manawatu and V est Coast A. and P. Association to-day. Tho committee decided to extend an invitation to the Prime Minister and any members of the Cabinet who were available to attend the Show. The Palmerston North City Council last evening passed a resolution conveying its deepest sympathy to the relatives of the late Mr S. Abrahams. Tho Mayor paid a tribute to the deceased gentleman’s valuable public service to this centre, and on his motion it was decided to place on record the council’s appreciation of his valuable work in faithfully serving the people of Palmerston North during the periods that he was a councillor for seven years, and Mayor, for two years. It was decided that these sentiments be conveyed to deceased’s widow and son.
