(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, April 20. Tho residence of All* Blackmore, wliioh was recently destroyed by fire in the Otaki Gorge, was insured* for £4OO, while tho furniture was insured for £IOO. Air Blackmoro estimates his loss at £250. A successful gift ovening was held by tho members of tho Chalmers Presbyterian Women's Guild at tho rcsidonco of Airs C. It. Baker, Alatene Street, when a pleasant time was spent bv all. Gifts of material, wool, etc., added appreciably to the guild’s store of goods. Competitions for fancy biscuits resulted in Airs Baker being first and Mrs Jenkins second. Ollier competitions wore won by Alesdames R. Thomson, Duncan and Jenkins. A vote of thanks was passed to Airs Baker.
