SUPREME COURT.

Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Feb. 24. In the Supreme Court to-day, a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy, was returned in the charge of manslaughter against Adam Te Wlietu, arising out of a car smash near (Taneatua on December 81, when accused’s companion was killed. Mr Justice McGregor sentenced Te Whetu to four months’ imprisonment. Holding at the conclusion of the case for the prosecution that the Crown had not proved its case, Mr Justice MacGregor requested the jury to return a verdict of not guilty on a charge of personation under the Electoral Act, preferred against Frederick Valentine, veterinary practitioner. The jury gave a verdict accordingly.
