AQUATIC SPORTS.
TECHNICAL SCHOOL FIXTURE. . The annual swimming sports of the Palmerston North Technical School were conducted in the Municipal Baths yesterday, afternoon when a lengthy programme was completed in excellent time. Under the control of the director, Mr G. G. Hancox, and his staff, the races were conducted in a systematic and expeditious manner, and there were no gaps between the events.
The boys’ championship was won bv J. Young, of the Arawa Club, with 9£ points, H. Essex, of the Ngapuhi Club, being second with 8J points. The girl champion is Eileen Revere, of the Tainui Club, with-. 12 points. She had the distinction of winning every event for which she entered. The runner-up was Ngnire Blundell, of the Tainui Club, with six points. The champion club is Ngapuhi with 75i points, the others, in order, being Arawa (37i), Tainui (36) and Rangitano (30). Prior to the conclusion of the sports,_ Mr Hancox addressed the gathering and on his call the pupils accorded all who had assisted a warm vote of appreciation. He called on Mr H. Hands, donor of the “Bert Hands” cups, to present them to the winners of the girls’ and boys’ 220 yards championships—Eileen Revere and J. Young. Mr Hancox also presented the “Colin Telford Memorial” .cup J- Young, as the boy champion. There is at present no trophy tor the girl champion. The afternoon concluded with cheers for the winners of the cups on the call of Mr Hands. Katene) 1, Rangitane (Corn Seifert, Wynne Gilchrist, Audrey Barron, Mavis Collis, Margaret Penny) 2; time, 2min. Inter-club life-saving (second and fourth methods): Boys, D. Kilgour and A. Wright 1, J. Young and I. MoGnire 2; girls, Gwen Goodrich and Sheila Heath. 1, Margaret Beattie and Jean Wihiata 2, Ngaire Blundell and Eileen Revere 3. Fancy diving, boys;' D. Lashlie (A.) 1, B.
