OROUA DOWNS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, Feb. 20. On Saturday evening in spite of the inclement weather a large number of people gathered in tho hall for tho purpose of bringing kitchen gifts to Mrs 0. and Mis H. Berg, who lost lost the whole of their effects when their house was burnt recently. Dancing was the main entertainment throughout tho ovoning, and beforo supper time Mr J. Cameron, pfesidont of the Sports Club, presented Mosdamcs Borg with the many gifts placed on a table, after which followed the singing of “For They Aro Jolly Good Fellows.” Messrs 0. and H. Berg replied in a suitable manner on behalf of their wives. Tho ladies of tho Women’s Institute handed round supper. Several dances were indulged in after supper and a happy evening was brought to a close at midnight to the strains of “God Save tho King.” The evening was convened by the executive of tho 'Women’s Institute and thanks are due to Miss McKenzie, Mr Hobbs and Mr Morris for helping by supplying the dance music. On Saturday afternoon tho Oroua, Downs A grade cricket team lost to the Foxton Fire Brigade team. The match was played in Mr F. Raikes’s paddock. On Saturday evening weixnrin rain set in and, although it was only showery at first, good steady rain kept up practically all night. This i 3 the first good downpour this district has had for many weck6, and by Sunday morning most of tho pools that were present late on Saturday night had soaked away, giving evidence of tho dryness of (he district.
