FREIGHTER ASHORE.

VESSEL FILLED WITH WATER. CREW ESCAPE IN BOATS. Received February 22, 8.6 a.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 22. The Patrick Company’s inter-State freighter Northern Firth, of 2000 tons, went ashore, at Brush Island, near Jervis Bay, yesterday afternoon and is expected to become a total loss. The Northern Firth struck the rocky shore of Brush Island and was soon driven hard and fast on the rocks in a moderate to rough sea. The ship became filled with water, but the efforts of the crew with the pumps were useless, and the 29 men escaped in boats to Brush Island. The vessel is now on her back, with heavy seas pounding against her.
