LIGHT AEROPLANE RACE.

CONTEST IN INDIA, CALCUTTA, Feb. 21. Completing a 709-mile course at an average speed of 96 miles an hour, Dr. Sprout, of the Punjab Flying Club, yesterday won the Viceroy’s trophy in India’s first light aeroplane race. W. C. Wingfield was second, and P. C. Chandbriani, of the Bombay Flying Club, third. .... There were 12 entrants including two Englishwomen, Mrs Horsman, of Gawnpore, and Miss Crossley. The latter competed in the British King’s Cup air race last year. B. D. Muckerjee, of the Bengal Flving Club, crashed, landing at Lucknow. The machine was wrecked, but Mr Muckerjee and his passenger were not hurt. The route wa3 Delhi, Agra, Jhansi, Lucknow, and hack to Delhi.
