DEATH IN BERLIN.
NATURALISED BRITISH BANKER. LONDON NOTABILITY BEFORE WAR. Received February 18, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 17. The death has occurred in Berlin of the famous pre-war millionaire and naturalised British banker, Mr Edgar Speyer, aged 70. Mr Speyer was a conspicuous figure in London’ social and financial circles, and was made a baronet in 1906. He resigned all English offices in 1915 and asked Mr Asquith to revoke the baronetcy. Mr Asquith refused, but in 1922 the Home Secretary revoked the naturalisation on the rejvirt of the Committee on Naturalisation, which found that lie had shown himself, by act and speech, disaffected and disloyal to His Majesty, and to have unlawfully communicated with the enemy.
